SUNSET COUNTRY QUILTER’S GUILD MEETING

Old Business:
Motion made by Marlene seconded by Gina to accept September 25th, 2007 minutes. Motion carried.

Thank you expressed to Nel and Anna May for their presentation of miniatures at September’s meeting.
Reminder was given to hand in any items for the basket (purple paper items) or any paper bag items to be made for the boutique.  Items can still be brought to November’s meeting.

Reports:
September Retreat: Mary  reported that she had a really good time and learned a lot about paper piecing and borders and was very pleased with her finished product.
A Thank You will be sent to the North Woods Motor Inn for their hospitality especially after the summer storm destroyed most of their kitchen facilities.

Treasurer’s Report:
Motion made by Joan seconded by Bernice to pay the Internet Website bill.  Motion carried.

Quilt Show Meeting Report:
Joan  reported that at the Oct. 9th meeting which was held at Kathy’s home progress reports were made by each committee chairperson or co-chair. Anna May reported that the plastic envelopes which will be affixed to the pillowcases containing the quilts or quilted items do not leave any sort of glue residue. Complimentary tickets are to be made up for those performing tasks for the Quilt Show. Bernice  brought Challenge Kits for the 2008 Quilt Show at the purchase price of $7.00.  Quilt Show 2010 Challenge Kits will be made up by Bev.  Next Quilt Show meeting will be at Kathy’s on Nov. 13th at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday Sewing Days:
Barb  reported on October 20th sewing day Karen taught a “Magic 9 Patch” method

Jan. 26th - “I Spy” kits and sewing caddy taught by Marg

Mar. 29th - Boutique Items
Birgit  made a request for hand quilting to be taught and Marlene would like machine quilting using stencils and other finishing techniques to be taught.

Karen gave a quick demonstration of the Magic 9 Patch method from the book “Primitive Gathering-Quilts and Accessories” and gave a hand out as an aid. She also distributed squares of white sparkly material which members may use in conjunction with their own blue fabrics to try out the magic 9 patch method. Returned squares can be turned into a “November Skies” quilt.  Blue fabrics are to be mottled or plain but not flowered or patterned with checks or prints.  Members contributed 25 cents for each square to help defray expenses.

Show and Tell

New Business:
Motion made by Heather  and seconded by Alice to pay instructors that are members of the Sunset Country Quilter’s Guild $50.00 per half day of instruction and $100.00 per full day of instruction and 20 cents per kilometer for those outside of Dryden boundaries. Motion carried.

Hellen  reported that there are 8 seats left on the bus chartered by the Women’s Institute for the Winnipeg Craft Show November 24th.

Christmas Party:
December 11th, 6:30 p.m.  Bring sweet or savory treats.  Optional gift exchange item can be bought or hand-made and should be placed in a brown paper bag which can be decorated or not. Gift price limit maximum is $10.00.  There will be an optional star block swap.  The star block of your choice should have a blue background with yellow star.  See description of blues above.  Block can be any size as long as ‘finished’ size is divisible by 2.  Actual size should have a half inch seam allowance.  Eg. 6 and a half inches or 8 and a half inches. 

Correspondence: Thank you card received from Barb from the Teddy Bear Picnic Committee for helping with the banner and flag for the Teddy Bear picnic.
Theresa replied to the card sent to her by the Guild by thanking the guild and expressing that she also missed us.

October Block of the Month:  Maple Leaf
Various examples of maple leaf blocks, runners and wall hangings were displayed.
Nancy  gave a short talk on the Thangle method of constructing half square triangles to make the Maple Leaf block. Karen demonstrated how to construct a
Maple Leaf block and a website for free triangle square paper was given by Alice
www.quiltime.com <http://www.quiltime.com>. It is hoped that members will try a new technique in the process of making each monthly block.  This is an optional activity.  A simple wall hanging can be made from the monthly blocks.
